There are many instances in one’s life that will force you to rethink how to do something in order to save money. Whether it involves buying groceries, clothes, insurance or art supplies there are many different ways to enjoy things you like while saving a little money. College was definitely my crash course in money saving 101, forcing me to get creative while still maintaining a budget. Planning parties and going to bars was no exception in my quest to staying on track.
Like most college students, I enjoyed hanging out with my friends and occasionally going to a bar. The part I didn’t like was getting my tab at the end of the night. The price bars charge for drinks is shocking, forcing me to get creative with my selection of beverages I consumed. My friends and I decided to experiment with beer as a base instead of hard liquors in doing so; we essentially brought down the overall price of the drink. Cheap beer cocktails, as we like to refer to them as, started us on a journey to invent fun new drinks to share with our friends.
The development and testing stage were interesting, to say the very least. Deciding what to mix and in what portions to mix them in was a challenge in the beginning. The goal was to select beverages that would complement the beer and have an overall appetizing taste. Various juices and sodas were gathered up to be mixed and measured, in the hopes of creating something wonderfully tasty that we would want to make again.
Beer cocktails are by no means a new fangled idea or one that will fade away anytime soon; either will the quest to save money whenever possible. Marrying the two has resulted in numerous combinations that were winners as well as failures. As long as there will still be beer produced and consumed, there will be countless ways to enhance the flavor and drinkability of the one of the most widely consumed alcoholic beverages to date.
